A Little About Me
Hello! 👋 I take it this is the place to sell myself, right? Well, you’re already here, so I must be doing something right!
My name is Emily Reed, and I’m a copy editor and proofreader from Ohio, USA. After eight years working in the medical field, I decided to switch gears. I started the Knowadays—Becoming a Proofreader course in 2022 and finished in January 2023. However, that’s not where my work in the subject of English began. In 2018, I received my certificate for a course in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I’ve also been writing for 10+ years and published my first novel in 2020. I have two out now (which you can find here).
Because of this, I know how much pride can go into every word we write. It takes time and emotional energy. Even if the purpose of our writing isn’t personal, it’s still a part of us. So, to me, even the smallest piece of writing is something to cherish.
Overall, my main goal is to keep your audience reading. I believe that when thoughts are written well, it doesn’t feel like reading at all. One typo, however, can bring the reader back to reality. You don’t want that, and neither do I. As I work with my clients, then, I strive to be a team player. I won’t be some grammatical dictator, but I’ll work with you to ensure you’re happy with your results.
In every industry, there are terms and protocols that can be confusing. For instance, there are many different kinds of editors. The sort of editing I do primarily focuses on the technical side of the English language, such as spelling, grammar, and punctuation. So you can expect your writing won’t have any major edits to it. I’m the editor who makes sure your piece is as perfect as it can be before being introduced to your audience.
