1. What will I receive when my document is done?

For Word documents, you will receive two versions of your edited document. The clean-copy file will be ready for you to use; however, any comments I made will still show up on the side of the text. (All you have to do is click on the comment box, review it, and click “resolve thread.” Then the box will disappear, but the note will remain in the document history.) The tracked-changes file will highlight every edit made to the document, and you’ll be able to manually accept or reject individual edits.

For Google Docs, I’ll work within “Suggestion Mode,” which will allow you to see my suggested edits before applying them to the document.

For PowerPoint documents, you will only receive the clean copy. The tracked-changes feature on PowerPoint isn’t very reliable, so I don’t recommend using it.

For PDFs, you will get a marked-up copy of your file highlighting the changes to be made.

2. Which types of documents do you accept?

I currently accept Google Docs and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documents.

For proofreading-only documents, I also accept PDFs (I use Adobe Acrobat).

I have been able to edit for clients directly from their own platform (using Adobe Workfront or straight from their website), so feel free to discuss that option with me via email.

3. What if I am not satisfied with my edited document?

I surely hope that will never be the case! But if so, reach out to me with your concerns, and we’ll discuss the changes that need to be made. Depending on what they are and how extensive the work will be, there may be an additional charge. Please also see the refund policy on this page.

4. Can I have you sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)?

Yes. I do ensure your privacy in all respects, but if you would feel more comfortable with an NDA, I would be more than happy to sign one before working on your document.

5. Which subjects do you not work with?

I do not work with religious, violent, political, explicit, magical, or paranormal content.

I generally work with any other subject, but I’ll let you know if I don’t work with your topic when you contact me.

6. Can you copy edit and proofread the same document?

Because proofreading is done best with a fresh pair of eyes, I prefer not to do both services on a single project. However, we can discuss the possibility.

7. Where did you get your education?

There is no dedicated degree for editing and only a handful of certifications, which are rarely required or obtained in this field. So, I took a course from Knowadays—Becoming a Proofreader—and gained the certificate with a classification of distinction, the highest level of achievement in their organization. Knowadays’ courses are CPD-accredited and widely recognized and respected in the editing industry.

8. What is the refund policy?

All work done on your project must be paid for, regardless of whether you are dissatisfied with the final product. Down payments are nonrefundable except for the specific circumstance explained below.

In case of cancellation: If you have paid in full or given a down payment and I have not started working on your project when you request to cancel the service, you will receive a full refund of what you have already paid.

If you cancel the service after I have started working on your project, I must be paid for the work already done. If you paid in full prior to me starting the project, you will get a partial refund based on the amount of work I did not finish. (For example, if you paid $100 and I already did $25 worth of work when you cancel, your refund would be $75.)

Down payments are nonrefundable once I’ve started working on your project, and any amount of work done that exceeds the price of the down payment will also need to be paid. (For example: The total price of a service is $1,000, and you paid the down payment of $500. If I did $300 worth of work, the $500 down payment cannot be refunded. If I did $600 worth of work, the down payment will not be refunded, and you will owe the additional $100.)

7. Do you have a late payment policy?

Yes. I require payment within 15 days of sending the final invoice. If I have not received payment within that time frame, the payment will be considered late and will incur a late fee of 4% per month on the invoice amount.

It is also important to note here that you will not receive the finished product until the final invoice is paid in full.
